Lykourgos Porfyris is an artist from Athens Greece he graduated from Athens School of Fine Arts in Greece in 2013. His works have been shown in Greece, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Kosovo and other places around Europe. He is also founder of AntiPlay Boy the Label a record label focusing on sound and music produced by queer and feminist artists. His work is a playground of failures, provocation and misinterpreted narratives. His practice is focusing on sound, performances and painting. The purpose of his artworks is to subvert masculine standards and stereotypes, to propose more complex and multilayered identities. He is also interested in the clichés of pop culture and how these elements are interacting with my minoritarian identity.
Failure has been a fundamental idea in his work while, feminist and queer theory have been crucial in his research background. His definition of failure is practices that don’t apply to the heteronormative notion of success because the norm of success is already established by male dominated standards. The performative aspect of his work is focusing on failing to adopt masculine roles, either by using over-identification or by rejecting his male identity.
